Photoman

You play as a photographer with an old disposable camera, thrown into an alien cyberpunk city, tasked with taking photos of the residents and various landmarks.

Play the game on web or windows exe, link below.

You need to take photos of all 5 resident+landmark pairs in your task list. The resident and landmark have to be in the same shot together.

WASD - walk,
mouse - look around,
space - jump,
LMB - take out camera,
RMB - take photo

Miko - art, modeling & texturing, programming

Rzyp - sounds & music, programming

Post-deadline update: added mouse sensitivity slider due to player feedback.

The graph and mechanism is actually quite interesting, though I think the sensitivity is a little bit wierd.

Interesting world to explore but some difficulties with camera and knowing if I managed to take right shots. This could be really interesting world with own quirks to explore if some of those usability issues could be enhanced!

The art style is interesting, though the colors inside the building were a bit hard on the eyes. I also wanted to ask: is the game actually beatable? I couldn't manage to win. Also, it’s a bit odd that taking pictures with the camera generates photo files—I imagine that if there are too many of them, it might put a heavy load on the game.

@art143256 Yes, the game is beatable. You have 5 tasks of npc+object to take photos of, and the task is only done when you get them both in one shot. You win when all 5 tasks are done. Taking pictures only generates a photo file if you've turned it on - there's a setting in the main menu called "Save Photos". It is "Off" by default. Sorry for the colors though, we didn't have time to tinker with the lightning. If it brings you any joy, here's how it looked in blender, without the sky:

I love camera games (Toem, Cat Me if you Can, etc) so I was excited to try this! The mouse sensitivity was too high for me so trying to play it made me really dizzy, though. That's okay, it seems cool and I bet it's fun to play! Sorry I can't give it more of a go!

Game's really buggy, and this is sad, as it has a lot of potential.

@ralex-x @kristinamay , for everyone with sensitivity problems, I just pushed out a new build with a mouse sensitivity slider, if you'd be willing to try it again.

@mikoolec you might want to revert the change, I think maybe you adjusted the sensitivity but didn't sync the camera up properly, because now my mouse just goes off the screen and I stop being able to look in a particular direction. not complaining, to be clear, just don't want my little sensitivity issue messing up the game for everyone else!

@kristinamay That's very weird, I didn't even change anything regarding the mouse, just multiplied its movement by the sensitivity. Are you playing the itch build? The mouse unfocuses if you press esc, and has the behaviour you described, that's a normal itch feature. If it happens, you can focus the window again by just clicking it.

@mikoolec lol you're right, I'm not sure what happened last time but I just tried it again and got to play! I like it, it reminds me of like... Penko Park or Pokemon Snap. I was laying in wait for certain scenarios, like the lil eyeball guy walking past the hallway that aims down to the tower. I got really lucky with my prompts and speed-ran the heck out of it! I'll try a couple more times, but thanks for making adjustments. This game has a lot of potential!

The game is buggy but it's a nice idea, good luck in polishing it!

The sensitivity is great on my end, and I enjoy a good photography game! Love the surreal world. Great work!

You know, I had a similar idea early on but I couldn't figure out a way to make a game out of it. I think what you made is a really cool concept. I like the weird little critters floating around and the general odd-ness of the world. The music cut out for me after a minute or two, but I'm not sure if that was a bug or the song just ended. My only real issue was that it was kind of hard to make out what the icons in the top left actually were. Still, I had fun with it. Good work!
