Ludum Dare #60compo
Punched to Go

It all went downhill since we stopped using Punched Cards to program (or maybe a little after that). So today, you have the great opportunity to enjoy gaming like it should have been if we didn't gave up on the glorious Punched Cards.
Here is a real Punched Cards machine:

This is a fairly challenging puzzle-programming game, a pen and paper will be helpful! Everything have been hand made during the jam, no AI.
*The following sections are best to try and figure out in game, if you are confused come back here for help and solution!*
Tips
* Use the pause button to stop the game while you read texts.
* Use the turbo button to speed up the part you know well, toggle it off when you reach unknown territory.
* Pay attention to the memo on the right. Move your mouse over them to rotate the camera and have a better look at them.
Controls
* __View the cards__ by *clicking* on the deck of cards on the left.
* __Pick up a card__ with *left click*.
* __Punch the selected__ card with *left click*. Note that you can "unpunch" by clicking a hole.
* __Select the cards__ you want to run with *right click*.
* Click the run button to __start the game__.
* Once the game finished running, __click the run button again__ to turn the game off.
How to play ?
You control your little T-Rex in the mini game by programming on Punched Cards. When you pick up a card, clicking on it will create holes. Then when you run the mini game, it will read the holes you made and convert them into commands.
Commands are encoded on 5 bits (the colored dots). It reads the top row (of 5 colored dots), convert it into a command for the T-Rex, then move down to the next row.
Solution - SPOILERS 👀
See the bottom of the Itch.io page to avoid unwanted spoilers.
Patchnote:
* __Version 1.1:__ Original Compo Version.
* __Version 1.2:__ Lowered the volume of a specific sound effect that kinda blasted your ears on headphones.
* __Version 1.3 :__ Added row numbers on the punched card to make it slightly less confusing and disabled the card deck model while the machine is running.

Comments3
The visuals and audio work a super nicely done and this feels like a polished game. I love the idea in theory but I just do not have patience to experiment and play with the cards enough to keep playing, but i see that the execution is great otherwise.
Awesome entry!
