RETRO RECOVERY

SAVE YOUR FILES BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

The disk is dying. Your files are disappearing. Every second counts.

---

💾 THE LAST RECOVERY

Your old computer is on the verge of a catastrophic disk failure.

In RETRO RECOVERY, you play as a data recovery program desperately trying to save corrupted files from a dying hard drive.

Move scattered data blocks across the disk, reconnect fragmented files, and recover as much information as possible before the system crashes.

But be careful: bad sectors are spreading, files are being destroyed, and your time is running out.

How much data can you save before everything is lost?

⚙️ HOW TO PLAY

RETRO RECOVERY is a fast-paced 2D puzzle game inspired by classic 90s computers, MS-DOS utilities, and old disk defragmentation software.

Your objective is simple: recover as many files as possible before your hard drive reaches 0% health.

- Move data blocks across the grid to reconnect fragmented files.
- Match blocks of the same color by connecting them horizontally or vertically.
- Recover complete files to earn points and free up disk space.
- Avoid corrupted sectors before they permanently destroy your data.
- Make quick decisions as the disk deteriorates over time.

Every recovered file brings you closer to a new high score.

Every lost file brings you closer to disaster.

My best score is 12800.

I liked how the challenge escalated. At first I could keep up with the game, but the situation slowly got out of control. In the end some squares on the edges became unreachable.

I can't see myself playing for too long though because the game requires constant focus. Maybe you could add some breathers like choosing upgrades or using a powerup to clear the screen.

Very difficult but novel experience, agree with the other comment that some breaks in the focus would be good! Certainly a cool concept.

Really challenging but unique experience! I agree that having a few breaks to refocus would make it even better. Overall, a really interesting concept with lots of potential !

Cool puzzle game, where you have to merge groups of sectors of same color.

Quite challenging because sometimes, some new sectors will spawn in the middle of merging.

I like the windows 95 graphics. Is the disk per chance a floppy disk ?

Good game overall.

Fun little puzzle game! The controls aren't really my cup of tea, tho. Maybe alternative keyboard control schemes could be considered? I also encountered situations where squares spawned on their own and got stuck behind holes, which was frustrating since there we don't really have any agency to fix this. Otherwise, a cool game with a fun concept!

The game is fun and well made, maybe put also the arrow key to play it could be good.

Fun game, i didn't understand the first run (even with the How to Play), after understanding the game is really good and fun.

The game music is a little repetitive
I didn't understand how corruption works and how to stop it.
Other than blocks being blocked behind corruption, i didn't find another bug.

I played for a bit, and this is good work. The controls and the objective are very intuitive and easy to understand. However, the controls themselves feel a little awkward. I have to concentrate quite a bit just to move the cubes around. I feel like it would be more comfortable if I could just click and drag with the mouse along an axis.

Pretty good, had a bit of fun. As others have said, an arrow keys/wasd control scheme would've been appreciated, but it's quite nice overrall. It's a shame for the AI capsule art but it is what it is.

Wow! I absolutely loved the concept of your game! It was genuinely fun to play, and I thought it was a really original idea for a minigame.

One thing I thought could have been interesting would be some way to recover failed slots, perhaps by losing points in exchange for freeing up space for new data to pass through. Alternatively, the data could simply start coming faster and faster as the game progresses. Of course, I can see how the first option might make the game go on forever if not balanced properly!

In any case, I really enjoyed it. It's quick to understand, straight to the point, and I think you've done a great job incorporating the theme. The whole thing reminded me of old Windows 98-era software, which I absolutely loved!

Really original idea, great job!
