You’re returning to Earth with your spaceship when an unfamiliar device appears aboard your ship. Its countdown cannot be stopped. Each time it reaches zero, the ship’s technology moves backward.

Advanced systems give way to steam-powered machinery, then wood, rope and fire. The equipment stays aboard, but the dangers change.

Rewind Descent is a 2D survival game about watching your surroundings and making use of whatever is still working. Dodge failing machinery, use loose materials as shields, and keep the ship together long enough to get home.

Controls

- A / D — Move
- W — Jump
- S — Crouch; drop through platforms
- Left click — Interact or pick up a nearby object
- While holding an object — Aim with the mouse; click again to throw
- Hold left click on movable equipment, then use A / D — Drag it; release to let go

Some attacks can be blocked with held objects. Heavy machinery and electrical waves must be avoided.

Before you start

Easy mode gives you more time to respond. Hard mode brings more frequent accidents, sometimes in quick succession.

At the start of each stage, walk to the flashing yellow communications terminal and click it with empty hands. Read the messages and journal, then confirm to begin. The game pauses while you read.

You have three health points. If you fail, you can retry the current stage. The main menu also lets you restart from your last failed stage.

Chinese and English are available from the main menu.

About the theme

“Old Tech” changes how the ship works, not just how it looks. Each rewind replaces the current technology with an older form, bringing different hazards and different ways to deal with them.

An interesting concept, with pleasing visuals. This game reminded me of the good old Flash games.

I'm glad I picked Easy because it took me a while to finish all three stages. There was a good level of variety between stages but they also had some shared mechanics (like balance) which varied in importance but was always there. It was a good mix. The tutorial text was a bit full-on but it was useful to go back and read the one mechanic (per stage) that I could not grasp just by playing around with it. Nice entry.

A fun and challenging survival game with pleasing visuals and a nostalgic Flash Game feel. The three stages offer a nice mix of variety and shared mechanics, especially the balance system. The tutorial is a little dense, but useful to revisit. Great entry!

Great mechanics, actually fun gameplay。A bit laggy in the latter parts of the game for my pc。 Good graphics and background

The way the ship's dangers shift and evolve as the technology declines is a genuinely clever design choice. It makes the survival element feel less about dodging and more about adapting to a fundamentally decaying environment. Really unique entry!

@eugenik Thanks for the kind words! Having the hazards change as the technology regresses was one of the main ideas I wanted to explore, so I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I also came across your game on the front page—it looks really polished! Unfortunately, I'm on a Mac, so I haven't been able to try it, haha.

I find the idea and design quite amusing, but the mechanics are separated, as the attacks don't make much sense. Too much information and mechanics stuffed into the beginning, and I can only try to understand them by reading the texts...AT ONCE.

If the game gradually progresses, unlocking new mechanics and messages teaching them, it would be a much more smooth experience.
