RUPESTRE

*They say walls cannot talk. These ones remember.*

*They tell the story of my ancestor's journey.*

*Through these pigments, he reveals to us the countless dangers he had to face to find his family and a little warmth.*

*May this story endure through the ages and inspire future generations.*

*Look closely. By the light of the torches, the paintings feel so alive…* 🔥

🤖 About AI

ai-usage-code-shaders-and-tedious-parts-of-the-game-engin-2026-10-20-125244.png
So I'm a professional developer, and this is my first game project without touching a line of code. I wanted to find out what could be done this way. I used Claude Opus 5.5.

Everything else was made by myself, including animated sprites, wall model, music, brainstorming, level design, testing, etc.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty happy with it since it allowed me to focus on all the rest, I usually spend way too much time on coding and it tends to frustrate me.

Anyway, that's why I submited my game in jam instead of compo.

📝 Changelog

The official version published at the end of the jam is `1.0.0`.

There's also a `1.0.3` version that fixes some issues and improves controller support. This is the version playable online on the itch page.

But you can also test the latest version with the new updates.

Latest version

- Music track has been improved, since the previous one was actually a draft.
- There's a slightly different track in the main menu.

1.0.3

- Project/product name has been updated to Rupestre, partially to avoid conflicts with other games in the AppData folder.

1.0.2

- Main menu title is correctly repositioned.
- Player is now teleported back to main menu once the game is finished.

1.0.1

- An impossible jump blocking the player has been fixed.
- Gamepad stick now has a dead zone.
- Dpad can be used to move.
- Gamepads now support aiming with the left stick.
- Spears now have some friction on the ground to avoid sliding through every enemy in front of the player.

The mood is really nice, the visual effect on the wall is stunning. It's not the most innovative gameplay, yet it's well made and it's very satisfying to throw the spear. The home-made music is really chill and fits the ambiance.

But most of all, I think that this game shows the oldest tech we could have had here, so congrats for that !

Didnt get how to pass this section :(
but great taking on theme! fire and spear are definitily the oldest technologies we have xd. I liked realistic graphics and music - it suits the setting very well! Overall great game:>

Really cool game!

The art style is great - and I'm really impressed to see an interpretation of that theme that applies to the visual style and not the gameplay mechanic!

Good job on the music too, it fits perfectly your theme and overall the mood is great. The only missing SFX is for the checkpoint.

Gameplay is basic but well executed, everything feels smooth. Maybe having a clear representation of the trajectory of projectiles would have been a nice touch, as right now it's a bit difficult to guess where it's gonna land.

Oh and thanks for disclosing your usage of AI that clearly! No matter where one stands on the AI usage question, I think your honesty is appreciated!

Good job!

Going all the way back to fire and spears for Old Tech made me smile. The figures really do look painted onto the rock instead of floating in front of it. Nice warm torchlight too.

Left my ratings. If you have a moment, we'd appreciate a rating on our game too: Robot Workshop.

@lastyw yes sadly I posted the game without having the time to test my level design. This is now fixed and available in the WebGL version, amongst other fixes. Feel free to give it a new try ;) Thanks for the report anyway!

@rolly @youpz thank you for your kind words, I appreciate the feedback! I'll make sure to check your games 👍
