You have eight seconds. Every time you replay them, you lose a little more.
*Rewind to Survive* is a short VHS-soaked puzzle-platformer about cooperating with a progressively deteriorating recording of yourself.
Record up to eight seconds of your movement, rewind to the beginning, watch your past self repeat everything you did, then work together.
Your recording can hold down switches, open doors, disable barriers, and help you escape rooms that neither version of you could solve alone.
There's just one problem, the tape is wearing out.
Every replay costs you a little more of your recording. The available time shrinks, the tracking gets worse, and the picture begins to fall apart. Eventually, the last moments of your recording disappear entirely.
How to Play
1. Record: Press R to start recording your movements. 2. Rewind: Press R again to stop recording and rewind to the beginning. 3. Cooperate: Your ghost replays your movements while you control the living player. 4. Replay: Press R to play your recording again, at the cost of additional tape wear. 5. Erase: Press Backspace to discard the recording and start fresh.
Controls
- Move: A/D or Left/Right Arrow - Jump: Space - Record/Stop/Replay: R - Erase tape: Backspace - Start game: Enter or Click
Rewinding is a nice concept to be honest, and I really like it! Also the graphics are sooo good, especially in replaying mode. The game was short indeed, but very enjoyable.
The idea that "the tape gets worn out" doesn't really matter since it resets back to fresh whenever you reset/erase. I'm assuming maybe there was some sort of "multiple recordings" idea that ran out of time or something. Anyway, it still works just fine as a regular "ghost" puzzle game.
Fun little game! The graphics and effects look great, and the concept is an awesome spin on the theme. My only criticism is that the tape degrading mechanic doesn't really do anything since you can always just press backspace to reset, but other than that this is a very solid entry!
Excellent graphics and good controls. Also a nice take on the theme. Puzzles were too simple and I never ran into the tape degrading until I forced it to happen. Seems like something that with a bit more work the base mechanic of the game could lead to something really fun.
Cute puzzles ! :-) Have you played "The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom" ? :) I feel like I could finish the game without using the tape damage stuff no? Everytime I created a wrong "ghost", I just restarted.
The way the coordination with your past self plays out is really clever. There is such a neat atmosphere built into the VHS aesthetic that makes controlling the timing feel super tense. Well done on a solid entry!
Very neat concept! The puzzles weren't that difficult and you only needed one rewind so I think the degradation mechanic could be used a little more. But it's a really cool take on this genre of puzzle games :D and the graphic effects add a lot to the feel of the game. Good job!
