The Last Show

Play it in the browser on itch: The Last Show

Hi! This is my first game jam, and it was a blast.

The theme was Old Tech, so I went with the magic lantern - the old slide projector that cinema pushed out of the theatres. On Saturday it was grey boxes and a beam of light. By Monday it had a theatre, a small story and 18 rooms.

The game: you are Nell, a lanternist's apprentice. On the night of the last show she drops the lantern, and the painted beasts run off the glass. Whatever is painted on your slide - a bridge, a ladder, a weight - appears where the beam lands, and it stays solid only while it is lit. Light the beasts back in.

Mouse and keyboard. All controls are in the pause menu and on the itch page.

I'd love to hear which room got you stuck and which one felt too easy. Thanks for playing!

the broken projector beam and the stained-glass beasts bursting off the glass are gorgeous. painting bridges and ladders with light fits the theme really well. i only saw the intro and the first moments, but the art direction is one of the strongest in this jam

Beautiful game with very 'correct' and tactile platforming and interesting puzzles.

This was really fun. Very unique and innovative. I love the aesthetic of the backgrounds and art. Feels very French. I felt bad sucking in the mouse though. Very cute entry. Well done!

Took me a few retries. Especially on one of the puzzles with the mouse that can't fall off the door opening part. But I really liked the ending.

I'd say the gameplay is relaxing — I got totally hooked lol, took me 9 minutes to finish

Very cool concept! It's a pity that using the platform is the most effective way to beat the levels. But it's fun, and that's what matters most! I love the visuals and the music.

I liked it, even though I’m not a fan of platformers. It looks very stylish!
