When the Skies Were Young

*It's the golden age of aviation, a time when the skies were a frontier and every flight was a leap of faith.*

Fly with nothing but maps, a compass and courage.

Trade goods and carry the mail between the towns of a foggy archipelago, and make your fortune: reach $1,000 to win.

How to play

The whole game is played with the mouse, on the aircraft's own controls:

- Move the mouse to look around.
- Click and drag the stick, the throttle and the levers to fly.
- Look down to read your documents (maps, pilot's notes, mail manifest). Click the left or right side of the sheet, or use the mouse wheel, to turn the pages.
- Hold T to make time pass 10× faster on long flights.

Taking off: open the throttle fully. The aircraft leaves the ground by itself when the airspeed needle reaches the blue mark. Let go of the stick and the trim holds her level.

Landing: approach at the blue mark, close the throttle and hold the stick back. Pull the throttle all the way back to stop the engine and set the brakes.

Once you're stopped with the engine off at an airfield, you enter the town (or click the runway).

You can even buy more powerfull aircraft in some town's shop

Read the Pilot's Notes first. They're the first page of your documents.

Navigation. There's no GPS and no minimap. You start with a map of the archipelago and a map of the nearby towns. The ball in the cockpit is both your artificial horizon and your compass. Find your way by the coastline, the mountains and the red roads that link the towns. You'll find new towns by buying maps or just by exploring. Watch out for the fog.

AI Usage

- Some help with fog shader and aircraft flying mechanics.
- Also placement of objects and props on the scene.

my laptop had to work pretty hard and it ran a bit choppy, but from what I could play I really enjoyed it. Lots of potential here, i'll definitely give it another go on my PC at home :)

No map marker is very realistic... but it makes the game really tough.
I really enjoyed the plane controls.

I like the vibes of the game, and the polish is incredible, looking down on the plance and getting the tutorial text was a very nice touch. Unfortunatly I get about 15 fps and crashed into the sea very early on. Would love to see where it evolves from here 🙂

I really enjoyed your flight simulator; everything runs incredibly smoothly—an amazing achievement for just 72 hours! I know that handling the controls for a large structure within a game engine can be quite challenging, but you pulled it off. Flying in your simulator feels incredibly smooth and enjoyable; I spent an hour and a half flying around and had a great time!
