The People's Time log
Some interesting introduction here.
Diary
(in reversed order, ie. latest first. and times are local time (GMT+1))
Mon 05:51 9 minutes left of the compo. Final (JolleFinal) uploaded some minutes ago. There hasn't been many updates the past 6 hours because I've been pretty busy. I've added 7 levels that are if not fun at least playable. So there's the Sandbox mode, the tutorial and 7 levels. Yeah. Unfortunetly I didn't come up with any ideas for so fun levels, but it's something anyway. There's also a title/menu page now.
Feels pretty nice that I can sleep now... even though not for very long. I guess I can add a more detailed entry here about stuff later. Kind of post mortem maybe.
Sun 23:47 Game mode 2 complete... well game mode is maybe not the right word. It's the tutorial mode. It's nothing fancy.. indeed, it ended up being mostly text and it doesn't really explain everything, but it will do. No shot. But you can test att JolleTest.
Sun 22:15 All placeholder graphics removed, and the first game mode is complete: sandbox mode ... which happens to be the easiest game mode to program, but I'm still going to try to get some other ones working. For your enjoyment, I have added a screenshot, that also shows off the fancy HUD. Some bad news are there will probably not be any sound in the game.
Sun 18:41 You can build stuff (in a controller way) now, and there's a HUD etc. Still not a game. I've been playing around a bit with my original idea, but it doesn't quite work... at least if I don't come up with something clever. So I'll have to take what I have now and turn it into some other game. I just have to figure out what that game should be. Kind of tricky. And then coding the game stuff could be a problem, considering the time it may take. Anyway, I'm taking a short break for a shower. Maybe I'll come up with something.
Sun 13:03 Ok, I've got a screenshot for you now. Fixed some of the tile textures (but not yet the trees or people). Most of the simulation works, even the trees and transporting them on roads (you don't see this, it just happens). Still not a game. Maybe now I will have that breakfast.
Sun 11:41 Woken up, checked the progression logs, and improved the my tile system rendering quite a lot (the look that it, it's probably very slow still). No shot at the moment. Maybe breakfast is a good idea to eat now... hmm.
Sun 02:07 Right, so there's huts and stuff, and roads and trees and such things. Much of the simulation are done, but it's not a game yet... just a simulation. You can see a piece of a screenshot below (it got ugly placeholder graphics, so it may not obvious what things are though). I really need to sleep now, it's been a pretty tough day.
Sat 23:03 Got the most basic thing of the game logic up: The creation of life! Water + grassland + luck = life :)
Sat 21:32 Ok, can draw text now. And "paint the landscape" or what you should call it. See shot2. Time to eat something.
Sat 20:31 Got a basic tile renderer with a weird kind of tile "antialiasing" on it up. See shot1.
Sat 18:35 Back from exam and have shopped food as well. So now it's on. Oh, yeah. Not sure what to do, though.
Sat 13:07 I've been thinking, hanging in #ludumdare, and generally not been very productive now for 2h. I'll soon head out for my doom, and later come back to start seriously on an entry. I've actually created a grass texture as well.
Sat 11:08 (local time, compo hour 5 i think): woken up, studied, checked theme (growth, well duh), seen page have been hacked, eaten breakfast, pondering on idea.. i'm thinking something along the lines of mix of black and white and pharao or something (it will be a community or something similar that has growth). but that may be too advanced for the short time i will have available. got the exam in 3h, and really would like to study some more before that. so the choice is between studying and coding... normally this would have been an easy choice.
