The green dot is the cursor, which is where actions are centered. The red lines represent when your cursor is too close to another village to build.
Yellow dots with white centers represent fishing villages. The yellow ring is brighter the more efficient the village is. Pillaging gives you a large sum of resources, but reduces the village's efficiency by one tenth.
The white and grey dots at the top represent your resources. The number is represented in binary. The rectangle above a dot represents the number of resources neccessary to create a colony.
WASD = Moves the camera.
F = Create a colony at the cursor. Will not be created if too close to other villages. R = Pillage the colony closest to the cursor.
