An endless runner made with Unreal Engine 4. Using the experimental Paper2D system released with 4.3.
--- About the theme --
I had a really hard time trying to think of what this theme meant to me. I was thinking of the possibilities that the future hold and what it would make me think "The future is now." I kind of went a darker path with it because I came across a lot of apocalyptic ideas. I settled on Zombies and went with running because that's what you do when there are zombies. :P
I made the background city blue because blue seems to have a calming effect as well as it's used in a lot of tech situations to make things seem futuristic. It was between blue and orange/yellow but the orange-yellow color didn't really look right with the blue character. The graves and zombies don't really aesthetically fit in but I had a very limited selection not being an artist.
--- About the tech ---
A few bugs in the Paper2D system slowed me down. I'm pretty happy with this being my first game jam. The end result is the basics of a game that seem to work well despite hacking it together in places.
--- How to Play ---
The controls are W or Space to Jump. The game starts when you launch the exe and restarts when you die so a menu system isn't needed.
Avoid the graves and zombies unless you want to slow yourself down.
Lastly: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 is needed to play the game. Download the x86 exe and install.
--- Pros ---
* I dove into the unreal 4 engine and their new paper2d system.
* I even found a few bugs I can report to epic.
* I got my first game jam game completed to a state I am proud of.
--- Next Time ---
* I initially thought this game was going to be a lot more complex than it was. I am going to come up with a more complex game idea.
* I am not very interested in creating menus but they can be helpful. Next time I will make one.
