Your implementation feels a little more balanced gameplay-wise, which is a good thing, though I actually like the unbalancedness of mine mixed with the tension as the speed gets faster. Regardless, yours doesn't have the "wait until I can get the ball" problem mine has.
Anyway, I won't comment on the structural integrity of your game since I can't talk being as I cheated and wrote mine in Unity while you coded yours from scratch =p
