My entry for MiniLD #68 - Childhood Memories

NOTE: HTC Vive required to play!

Experience part of my childhood. Not suitable for young children.

For those who cannot play, please take a look at the game footage video linked from the GameJolt website for an idea of what this game is about.

This game is a recreation of a street that I grew up in. There are several events scattered around for you to find; simply teleport to the red boxes to start and end the events.

As this game is WIP, the events vary wildly in quality. There is no real gameplay here, other than to view all the events.

Thanks for making the video; I'm glad to have the glimpse into this interesting little project. The mix of emotional tones is great. There's something about the event where you're standing on the bed, drawing on the wall, that's strangely evocative. Definitely seems like a good fit for VR.

Not sure what I can say about this which is probably filled with all kinds of not always happy memories of yours, of which I can only understand a small fraction as an outsider.

It was atmospheric and gloomy - and probably an interesting experience if actually played....

Interesting game, altough it only show a black screen for me.
But in the video I can see the game.
The graphics are pretty good and I like the sandpit and drawing on the wall.
The emotions are good and thanks to the gray it feel nostalgic.

Sadly my comment is still from the video, since no Vive for me yet, but hey, I think the atmosphere comes across quite nicely!
First of, I found it super cool you modeled your childhood home and neighborhood by memory! :D Seeing your tweets of the process on Twitter was my favorite thing.
I love all the little things you added, as painting with felt pens on walls, and I also somewhat love how the game turned out in the end ... even if it is a bit "depressing" as you say it. But I don't think that has to be a bad thing.
I think you transfered so much personal meaning, so much emotion in your last sprint when finishing the game, I'm truly astonished.
I don't understand everything, but I think I don't have to. Great game with a wonderful, strong atmosphere and a lot of cool stuff to do with VR :D I'll give it a try as soon as I've access to a Vive again :)

Ok, so I finally had to chance to play this in VR and ... wow! Fucking amazing! I had goosebumps troughout the game and especially at the end. Drawing with felt pens was probably like my most favorite Thing ever - in a way it actually felt like I was a child again doing drawings for my grandparents and parents :)
I'm really not sure what exactly happened with the catholics and why People were so insane to try to hurt or kill them ... but I get the mood I think you have when thinking about this ... it carries troughout the game in a way. Once again, great game, I'*m honored you create this for this jam :)

Thanks a ton for the comments, folks! I didn't expect the game to turn out quite so blunt (although I always intended it to end as it did), but I think it came out somewhere close to the mark. Maybe in the future I can revisit it with a clearer vision and make it a longer, more gentle experience!
