LightningBugs

When I was a kid we used to catch lightning bugs (fireflies...). Click on a bug to catch it. Each level adds a bug and resets the timer to 30 seconds. See how many bugs you can catch before you run out of time.

This is the first time I've built a game and released it into the wild. The artwork is modeled after something I drew when I was 10. The music was procedurally generated. There is a lot more I'd like to do to add depth to the game itself- maybe after.

Anyway, have fun!

I used to catch these bugs all the time as a kid. There is still something magical about seeing them every summer. The nostalgia of this made me decide to do a let's play for your game: https://youtu.be/1xQfpOjTYBk

this was very fun thank you for making it.

I've never seen a firefly in person, we don't have them in these parts. So I made sure to catch a ton here to make up for it :P

Very nice mood with the background art and music. I found the frequency of the level up messages at the start of the game a but intrusive to the mood, for me personally I'd be more engaged if the clickable area around the fireflies was larger and you needed to click more bugs before leveling up. Then I could get more engrossed in the music and feel of the game.

Very evocative of childhood. Fantastic effort, congratulations on putting your first game into the wild.

Wow the music is procedurally generated? That's great :)
Nice little atmospheric game...
Level up sounds a little bit as if you became stronger yourself... :D Not sure if you need that message...

I second completely what DerTraveler said :D
Congrats on releasing your first game, it turned out really nice and atmospheric!
I like how you based the art on something you drew when you was 10. Catching fireflies is something many people connect to their childhood where I come from.
Maybe you could show them at the end of each level in a little jar? And then maybe play an animation how they are let free again?
Also, I'd love to hear some sounds of a summer night, maybe some cicadas chirping their songs.
The dance of the fireflies is just over here for this year where I live. It was truly magnificent, filling one with awe - a great thing to base a game on!
Also, from my experience they don't go directly from brightly glowing to unlit - there is a transition happening between the two states. Maybe that's something you could incorporate!

Great, atmospheric game with a very interesting process! Love it! :)
