MiniLD #69compo
Planetary Colonization
You are a man-shark hybrid that has crash landed on an alien planet just waiting to be liberated by their savior - you.
Mouse1 / LCtrl to shoot
Spacebar to build
Leftshift to sprint
Tail-whipping happens automatically if you have the stamina
~ to cheat
You can take over enemy bases by walking into them after breaking the walls and killing nearby enemies. Walls that are apart of owned bases will regenerate health and enemies will have to attack them first to get to you if you are behind them. You can build extra walls with the coins that enemies drop (or by cheating) and you can upgrade those walls with turrets that will help defend your base. After taking over a base the enemies will launch a counter attack where you have to defend your base from faster and more frequent enemies. Also when night comes it is just like a counter attack but for longer. Every Time you capture a base a new one is spawned that can be captured and the bases can spawn forever but the enemies get progressively stronger as the game goes on making it hard to capture many bases.
This is the first game me and my friends have made and we did not have time to add everything we planned. It is barely a game as it is but any and all feedback is welcome.
The game will run faster if you don't use the WebGL version. Also the mac and linux builds are untested so you might have to use the WebGL version if they don't work.

@Herrmyth Thanks for the feedback! The attack/defend part of the game is something we never got to add everything we wanted to. The way it currently works is every time you capture a base it spawns more bases that will spawn enemies to attack you until you capture that base. The enemies move and spawn faster during counterattack and nighttime and overtime they will get stronger too. Something we were thinking of implementing was removing attacking enemies during the daytime altogether and instead making it harder to attack their bases. I suppose in the current state of the game the goal is to survive as long as you can, but honestly its not really close to being finished.

This is actually good, the graphics could be improved but I really love the concept.
You really need to edit the description (here and in-game) to add an explanation of how to play, I didn't know what I was supposed to do..
this is very good for a first game, good job (:

Nice game for a first time, sprites could be improved, same for the sound effect, but at least you got a working prototype which is something to be proud of :)

I liked the gun sound :D... But an explanation should definitely be added to the game... I didn't really know what to do (and also just found out by chance that you can fire by using Ctrl button)....
After I knew that I killed many aliens but was overwhelmed at night...

@kfischer_okarin Thank you for the feedback! Another thing that I should explain is that if you keep your base from being attack the walls will regenerate health and protect you from enemies while still allowing you to shoot through them. This and all of the information above needs to be explained in the game but I haven't figured out the best way to convey that yet other than just putting a wall of text before you start playing.

Good stuff, I like that the controls work on Dvorak keyboards well enough. I found it well-balanced too, at least for my skill level--it was challenging to hit the enemies before they got me. The stamina/tailslap could be explained a bit better, like how much it uses, because it happens so fast that I'm afraid to rely on it instead of just button-mashing the shoot button (hilarious sfx for that btw.)
It's true, tutorials are hard to get right, and according to some, they are rarely read through anyway. If/when you add one, keep the text as concise as you can, I guess...
I don't quite understand why, sometimes I'm able to shoot part of the base walls and then they're no longer shootable (I guess I took over at that point), but other times I destroy both walls before seeming to take over. It's hard to make observations because the enemies really keep you on your toes :) Great first go though!

The enemies reclaimed the building and I was stuck inside! But it was a fun game! It took me a little bit to figure out I was supposed to shoot the walls. I just kept running left in hopes of finding something.

You made a really addicting game with some long lasting gameplay... still the difficulty curve is something to consider... your music is simple but you are going in the right direction... improvement will come with time!!! Just judging from what is there the game has really good long term value at the gameplay it self... and you added enemy variety too, so very nicely done!! Remember presentation comes with time!!! Cool stuff!!!

Good start! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the MiniLD 69 games, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/nRFzaIcVxgM

This attack/counter-attack mechanic was not clear to me, for example didn't quite understand on the first run why the spawn point of enemies suddenly changed...
