Dwarven Miner

First of all(tl;dr): This my first time (semi-)finishing something, releasing it AND making a few bucks from it, so for me october challenge was a real success.

I wasn't really sure what to submit, since the game I started originally for october challenge is still in the making - I will report about that once there is anything to say.

Then, one weekend in October, BretHudson started a little 3-hour jam in which I managed to make a playable game (Linejump) - since it kinda worked, I submitted it to kongregate and - woohoo - made a couple of bucks. The quick jam was a great experience, both programming-wise and concerning the whole polish/upload/ad-revenue thing.

The next weekend or so I felt I needed another little break from my main project, and since there was no 3 hour jam, I decided to make a quick experimental mining game (I had no concept but: mining) and see how well it performs out there. Dwarven Miner. As always, it turned out to take much longer than expected, but I learned a lot, this time I uploaded it to Kong and via the mochimedia network to multiple sites. I implemented the kong-api for the kong version and the mochi api for the other sites. I instantly got mixed feedback and spent quite some time improving it - it still is a somewhat incomplete game, but has its fans and people reporting playing it for 3 days, just to find out if there's a level-cap :)

Quick Facts on Dwarven Miner: 4 pick-axes, 4 types of soil, 7 types of ores/diamonds, 12 types of artifacts, 8 shops paying different prices for stuff, cute animals on the surface, kongregate highscores, mochi leaderboards and 3 achievements.

So - thanks to my habit of recursive working (starting side-projects) - I didn't finish my original idea (although it is getting somewhere and I am aiming a little higher than with these two games here) but instead made two mediocre games and just sent them out there. As of now, the combined ad-revenue for both games is about $37, with Dwarven Miner (the better performer) released to mochi on the 21st.

I have almost no excuses anymore to not finish my original game (apart from having started two more prototypes) ;)

I'm linking the mochigames version of DwarvenMiner, where the mochi leaderboards and achievements can be seen.
