Escape from Planet Brobulon posted and Post-Mortem.

So I’ve submitted my entry for the Jam. This time around I didn’t have my two friends to work alongside, and I think it shows. This isn’t necessarily my proudest work, but these things happen from time to time. You can get it HERE.

When I came up with the idea I thought of making it kinda a different take on a “sequel” to a previous entry I did, under the account angrybearcrossup. This was before the August Dare when my friends and I decided to make a unified account. The idea is that you play a human of the planet Earth that has since been subjugated by Brobulon (and you wear a very stylish space suit because the atmosphere is now toxic). You’re on a journey to sneak your way out of a prison you’ve been thrown into and you have to dodge robot-alien sentries.

You get one “bullet” in your ray gun which can be used to take out ONE sentry on the map to make your life a bit easier.

The Good: It’s been a while since I touched Mecanim in Unity3D or any of the Navmesh stuff, and that was refreshing to do. I enjoyed making the quick, little levels and making the paths for the sentries. I had fun modeling out the character, though he could use more poly’s since he doesn’t deform the best.

The Bad: The graphics are pretty bad. After I rigged the main character I started to lose interest in the project in general unfortunately and this was shown most evidently in the graphics lacking substantial polish. The game is also far too easy, but I’ve run out of time to really tune the difficulty up. I would have liked to make many more maps.

I had fun though, and it did fulfill a purpose on several levels. I got to do more with Mecanim (which I hadn’t really touched in a long while). I got to mess with some really basic Navmesh stuff (which I hadn’t touched since it first hit a few years ago). I gained a better understanding for biped topology (though the main character is definitely lacking in polygons).
