Impossible's LD3 game's Time log
The Impossible Log... 3rd times a charm
8:00 PM Central The theme is preparation... Yet another theme that I'm not prepared for and have no ideas about. I guess the first decision will be what kind of game I want to do, and after that whether I want to go 2D or 3D or some hybrid. Wish me luck.
8:20 PM Central The current idea is a self playing RPG (ala Progress quest) with a very large and complex character creation and experience system (think gurps meets PM2.) Crazy advantages and disadvantages, tons of skills, lots of different situations.
10:00 PM design notes:
Right now I'm thinking something X-Com like. Except the preparation is more complex and the battles resolve instantly. Your main interface is a 3D globe, different points on the globe become hotspots (red) and your team needs to deal with the hotspots before the entire globe goes nuclear.
Build a "crisis team." Kind of like a mix between the organization in X-Com and a super hero team. Your characters are the sole defenders of the earth.
Characters have a set of stats that define abilities and personality:
Physical abilities:
Strength Dexterity Speed Toughness
Mental Abilities:
Intelligence Experience Intuition Charm
Skills\Powers\Inventory:
Martial arts: boosts all physical stats
Telekinesis: Boost Intelligence and strength Telepathy: Boost Intelligence and Charm ESP: Boosts Intelligence and Intuition
Training and team building: Most the the gameplay deals with training and building the right team. In order to make this interesting there need to be a good deal of options.
Crisis time: When you choose to intercept a crisis everything goes into automode. Based on the resources you invested in and the type of threat you see different combinations of still images text and sound representing the crisis.
Threat ideas:
Alien invasions Rival teams Terrorist attacks Peace keeping Mad scientists
Ways of dealing with\solving crisises:
Combat: reliant on physical stats and combat oriented abilities. There is some intervention between combat rounds, but not much. Combat lasts until the threat is neutralized. You can choose to use one ability per combat round.
Control\Influence\Diplomacy\Infiltration: Reliant on mental abilities.
Research (?): Come up with some technology instantly capable of neutralizing the threat.
So I guess the game would be you spending cash on your team and trying to manage threats. Letting relatively minor ones slip (so you don't stretch your team too far) and dealing with major ones ASAP.
