Natural Killer's Time log

This journal was kept by Claude, Eddie, Rob, and Roy as we worked on "Natural Killer" for the 48-hr game programming competition. The game wasn't completed in time, and I suppose it wouldn't have been valid anyway since we had 4 people working on it.

We had a blast. Please check back at www.naturalkiller.com (not up yet) sometime next week to play our game.

10:22pm EST 04/04/03 Have a pretty satisfying idea. Players design characters/game objects with a set of attributes, behaviors, and strategies. Players connect to a central server to submit their creations. Persistent game universe lives on server. Universe has a time domain. Creations interact based on preset strategies, behaviors, and attributes. Creation strategies/behaviors can be based on previous history.

The goal is to build the framework for this type of game around rock-paper-scissors then enhance the game after all is working.

For now, the plan is weed, beer, and maybe (crossing fingers) pussy.

All Saturday:

Unproductive as hell. Drank and smoked a lot. The game concept finally came together. Amazing how creative you can be with a little THC.

3:05am Sunday We're baked as fuck, and eating PB&J on hotdog buns. Not a single line of code written.

2:07pm Sunday We just had our first match between Alpha Strain and Dr. Adam. The resolver interface is working. Virus and ImmuneSystem both define action get property. We're well on our way.

7 hours left I think.

4:35pm Sunday Things are progressing great. I'm a little worried about the time though. Working on the server now. Let's see how DirectPlay works.

9:06pm Sunday Client/Server is working. Graphics look great. I don't have nearly enough time to finish gameplay though. SIGH. Oh well, we'll finish the first release of our game over the next week. Good luck to all the other entrants!
