Summaky's LD3 game's Time log

Ludum Dare Third 48-Hour Competition

Time log (GMT+2)

2003-04-05 00:13 The competition starts in less than 4 hours...

2003-04-05 00:27 Starting "coding" this page :)

2003-04-05 02:31 Just finished "coding" the page...

2003-04-05 04:04 Competition starts! Theme = "Prepararion - Set it up, let it go"!

2003-04-05 05:02 After a hour trying to desing, I'm already guessing what type can I make... I'm completly blank! ;(

2003-04-05 05:36 At last! It seems I found an interesting/usefull idea: Try to put some traps somewhere to catch (or even kill...) mice , or sheeps, or whathever ;), but the mice will go after a short time, so you'll have a time limitation. Guess it might be funny :)

2003-04-05 08:20 Well... after about 3 hours, I finished a really ungly title screen... don't laught too loud... Now, I'm going to start the game, to start showing this... well... this screen ;(

2003-04-05 09:38 Yes! I made it! Now we have a very stupid program who opens a window (into GNU/Linux ;) ) and shows the lame title screen... Yes, isn't a complicated task... but the last time I used SDL is soooo faaaar away... But I done it in less time that the title. Whee!

2003-04-05 11:37 Problems with the mouse... almost 2 hours wasted...

2003-04-05 12:29 I have our "protagonists": the mice. Well thats want to be, but I think that this will work! (See screenshot).

2003-04-05 17:42 Made some tiles and objects to be used into the games (when finished!). There's a example of a simple (well, the simplest indeed) tiled level and one mouse running arround... funny.

2003-04-05 22:40 Well... the "level editor" isn't very well dessigned, but it let modify the levels using vi :) (or Emacs). Really, I'm not very good at graphics (well, I'm a programmer) so I did a simple text file for every level. Now I'll begin implementing some 'fisics' ;)

2003-04-05 23:52 The first implementation with 'fisics' aplied is now ready. Now the mouse (or the mice if you modify the level1.lvl file) turns back or fall off As I said before the levels aren't to complicated, it is a follow: 1st line: width 2nd line: height 3th line: xstart(space)ystart 4th line: num of mices(space)xvelocity(space)time between step(space)time before mice starts to get out rest of lines: 'height' list of numbers separated with space with the line number (lame, ya know)

2003-04-06 11:49 I'm getting frustated. When I see some of the really nice screenshots posted by other competitors, specially those with 3d rendering, I feel I'm wasting my time trying to write this... I'm not finding a right afjective now! :) Anyways I'll go until end (I thought left about 16h) so I keep trying, but perhaps in the next competition I'd be able to make something better!

2003-04-06 16:54 Put a timebar to show the remaining time before the mice go and get killed ;) (When finished, someday). Now going to let put traps...

2003-04-06 19:52 Well, now WE can put/remove the traps but only the laser (well, it's the only one drawn) and you can put it only... well everywhere, even where it's suposed to be forbbiden!

2003-04-06 22:10 AT LAST!, now we are able to play the first and stupid 1st level. Its a test level to see how can be done all the stuff. Now I have to implement better all the system, because is soooo slooow and we only have 5 hours!!! Damn, my game is going to be the worst but, well it was funny!

2003-04-07 00:06 4 hours left to finish the compo and my game isnt't goint to be completed, in fact I can't make a second level with that time... I'm feeling so tired... I'd send this stupid version as final, but I'll try to make the win32 version

2003-04-07 01:46 Almost 2 hours left to deadline... I can't finish it but my principal objective is accomplished: it is somehow playable (in every other testfiles the "game" isn't interactive...). I'm sure I'll score really poor, but I'm happy. I've participed, I've talked to other folks about programming and I've learned alot for the next competition, when we'll meet again.!
