Ludum Dare 48hr Contest #3 Log
4/4/2003 3:21:49 PM - Roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes before the 3rd Ludum Dare 48 hour contest starts, I'm putting up the log and cleaning my desk.
4/4/2003 6:54:53 PM - Well, the contest has started. The theme of the competition? Preparation. Ate some pizza and thought about it. I think I have an idea of what to do, but I'm not sure. I'll tell you later if I decide.
4/4/2003 9:14:51 PM - Still struggling with what to do. Thinking about making a game where you put together monsters and then let them go out and fight. Gonna build sprite stuff and font code whilst thinking about it. Hopefully, by tomorrow morning, I'll have stumbled across the right formula.
4/5/2003 9:30:05 AM - Well, went to bed at 1:30am after struggling with SDL_ttf. All it did is remind me why open source is a pain in the ass. No library should crash when it can't find the file that you requested it to open. So let's see if I can get something done. I'm still not feeling well.
4/5/2003 10:22:21 AM - Well, got fonts working (sort of).
4/5/2003 3:06:57 PM - Only 23 hours in and I've got my first screenshot! It's of the purchase screen where you can purchase parts for your monster. I got tired of having uploaded absolutely nothing.

4/5/2003 10:55:22 PM - It's been along time since I updated this thing. I've been working on it all day, but it's really slow going. Here's the latest screenshot. In the shot, you can see a Mobility item, but I've since changed it to be body, and that will determine your speed and stuff. Hopefully will be done with this screen tonight so I can get to the exiting stuff tomorrow.

4/6/2003 12:16:29 AM - Last image of the night. This is also (most likely) the final setup screen where you set up your monster before doing battle in the arena. All that's left is building the battle part. See you in the morning.

4/6/2003 10:22:32 AM - Well, I'm up, but I'm exhausted. Didnt' get good sleep last night. We'll see if I can get this done, but it's not looking good. Being tired does not help one code.
4/6/2003 3:28:56 PM - 3 1/2 hours to add an opponent, attack sprites, and actual game play. Don't think I'm going to get finished.
4/6/2003 5:04:09 PM - Finally! An Arrow Monster that can fling rocks! Only two hours left to go.
4/6/2003 11:23:18 PM - Well, the contest ended, and I ran out of time. Being ill didn't help, but I think I had a pretty good start. If you're interested, the (un)finished game can be downloaded here and the source code (if you're into that kind of thing) can be downloaded from here. There will not be any support for either of these as they are not finished products. If you have a question about the source, don't ask. The code was written in 48 hours and is filled with unfinishedness. Thanks for watching. I had a lot of fun, and if you have any interest, you should join the next one.
