Voo and Doo : Post Mortem
Yay ! We made an entry !
Voo&Doo is a local co-op platformer for 2 players. Voo and Doo are two little dolls with the ability to control gravity ! (aaaaawesoooome)
Voo has the power to repulse everything around him (mostly girls).
Doo has the opposite power of attraction, but he is always sad because everything fly up to his face. Poor Doo.
Together, with their powers combined, they face every peril and defeat every foes !
This way to the game : play it here
A Semblance of Post-Mortem :
It was a pretty weird game jam for the three of us. We had a lot of other work so we were constantly hesitating to do the jam or not, making assets here and there, but in a completly disorganized way. That was until we had our first protoype that was fun enough (around sunday evening). We actually played it more than we made the actual game, but since we were having fun, we decided to share it with everyone. So we somehow assembled the chunks we had into a final prototype and submitted it.
What went right :
– the final hours : really productive and not overwhelmed by the approaching deadline. HTML5 builds were easier than expected !
– the music : I think it’s pretty good. Boris did an amazing job, creating it from scratch in the 2 last hours.
– the local multiplayer : we’re huge fan of that aspect in games, so we do that for pretty much every ludum dare. We had tons of fun swinging objects around, flying the other doll back and forth and randomly moving platforms (It may just be us…).
What went wrong :
– Physics : damn I really love Unity but maaan PhysX is not my cup of tea. The 2D tools (joints/rigidbodies…) need so many tweakings to work “decently”. In a previous version we added a link between the dolls, but the joints wood break too easily or went in the way, bugs… But yeah, some physic related issues.
– local multiplayer & level design : as we all know LD needs to be tested again and again. The multiplayer component makes it longer, so yeah. We did not manage to always get the flow we wanted.
As ludume dare always is, it was a great experience :) Anyway, we hope you will have fun playing Voo&Doo. Thanks to the participants & the organizers !
Cheers !
Boris, Vincent & Zac
