Ludum Dare #37compo
One Room Hotel
The One Room Hotel has been in your family for generations, and the task of managing it has now fallen to you.
As the name implies, only one guest can stay at the hotel at the time; choosing which guest to keep and managing their happiness is the main challenge of the game.
You'll need to stock up on cards that represent different types of food and entertainment, which you can then use to keep the guest amiable.
The core of the game is pretty much finished, though it could of course use more balancing, content, and polish. There is no winning condition, you can play to your heart's content (or until you run out of funds).
Controls:
*Left mouse click: click on things (dialog boxes to dismiss, cards to select).
Game made in Unity; artwork made in Aseprite; music generated in cgMusic with minor edits in Audition; sounds generated and mixed in Bfxr.
Thanks for playing!

I like logic in every part of the game.

Interesting entry! It was fun for a little while, but I found that the balancing was very heavily weighted against the player; if you messed up once or twice, it was very hard to recover because of how many elements were dictated by RNG. It also seems that the only way to keep the business afloat is turn away cheap customers and shower lions and pandas with television sets. It's a bit weird that the mechanics unintentionally encourage you to be discriminatory!
On the tv note, I also got tripped up by the fact that activities were consumed on use. It seems strange that you'd be buying single-use tvs, haha!
It does seem like a pretty solid base for a hotel management game though; nice work!

Neat little game! It made me feel a little bad having to kick my guests when someone new came, but it's a nice tackle on the theme. The music was pretty and the characters portrait made me see their personalities through the text. Some improvements on the GUI and a little more variation of things and the possibility of seeing someone new coming could've changed the way we viewed the game. Nice one!

This was a really cool concept that would make a great game with some more polish and variety. One thing I noticed was that I could just keep giving Lionard cable TV so he had to pay huge nightly rent which was fun. The names were all amazing.

Reached day 11, really liked to to manage a hotel for animals. :)
Guest names are cute.

(Forgive my bad english)
Pretty good.
The graphics can be better done and it's pretty boring. Sorry to say that.

A lot of clicking to get started for someone who is as impatient as me =) But after the first day I managed to please the guests for a few days before they got "miffed" and left - nobody else cared to stay after that! Is it difficult to balance games like this? I don't have any experience playing or making management games but I got a feeling that the logic is in place.

Liked the game, very good mood.
Could use more balance (on one play almost nobody came and run out of funds without much to do)
With more content and variety (some more choices) this could have potential :)

Very interesting concept.

Pretty cool, but not enough guests showed up on either of my playthroughs, and I just ended up frittering away my money on the nightly bills. Some of the guests don't even cover their costs either, which is a bit weird. Fun though, I might give it another go now and see if I get lucky!

Nice compo entry, quite complete ! Great job on the sound design, graphicss are pretty eye-candy overall, the concept is interesting and well executed and you nailed the funny details. It really have potential, hope you'll find some time to polish it a little bit more. I think no one will blame you for balancing issues, there is so much things that need to get done before during such a short devlopment period !

Nice concept! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/7yEaPmt36yU

I really like the idea, and its really fun trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of each guest :P
However, n addition to balance issues you mentioned (I got a lion up to ~4000 rent a day), the fickleness seemed to rise as I lowered it. Don't know what that was about.
There could also be a little bit more instruction about how the game's system works, which could be in the description.
I think a post-compo version of this could be really great :)
Good work!
