It's SUPER, it's FUN, it's ACTION ...chess!
This games tries to combine the rules and pieces of chess with the rules of a real time action game.
HOW DO I PLAY?
1. Click on your pieces to select them.
2. White circles appear where the selected piece can move.
3. Red Tiles appear where the enemy piece can be taken.
UPDATE
HOW DO I TAKE A PIECE/ KILL A PIECE?
1. If your piece is moving and the other piece is not, you kill the other piece
2. If both of the pieces are moving, it FAVORS the piece that moved first
3. It FAVORS the initial piece, it still has random chance of the other piece killing you!
UPDATE
WAIT, WHY DOES IT RANDOMLY FAIL?
I tried the rules with (first piece to move wins) and (last piece to move wins) when they are both moving. Both rules resulted in an unfair game as it created a single strategy that can be used to win every time. If I had more time, I would try more other options, such as just stopping both pieces. If you have any ideas, post them in the comments!
HOW DO I WIN AND SEE ALL OF THE STORY ?
1. Kill the king!
2. Don't let your king die.
TIPS:
1. Try to keep the pieces moving, don't wait to see if the move worked.
2. Use all the pieces, some are very effective.
3. Kill the king!
DEV NOTES:
I found it hard to find the gameplay in this one. I think the theme makes it tricky as the games should be incompatible. I tried to focus on the execution, the art, sounds and atmosphere. If I had more time I would make it more like Rome Total War. I used Aseprite and the edge32 palette to try get that nice, solid art feel. All the colors in the game come from this palette. I used libgdx with java for the coding, finally getting a web build for Ludum Dare. Hopefully that helps everyone have a go. The sounds they make when they die are me, dying.
