Tetris Breakout
Game made in 48h for the Jam. This is my second time participating in Ludum Dare. Last time I had an unfinished game.
The first day was entirely wasted, because I had no idea what I should make. @ashtrail#6935 helped me with an idea on Discord. Thanks! Progress was quick and I love the final result! I had so much fun.
@ArBe#4656 suggested adding different colored tetris blocks, so I did. Thanks for the suggestion!
Controls:
A, D, arrow keys, or anything horizontal really - move left, right (The arrow is your character)
Press spacebar to launch a missile
Randomly placed, randomly colored tetris formations will fall down. Your goal is to destroy them with your rockets. After you've destroyed 10, you can use a powerup to destroy every spawned tetris formation.
If you fail to destroy a tetris formation, and it stays on the ground for more than 5 seconds, you will lose health and the piece will self-destruct. Try to avoid that.
I hope you have as much fun playing the game as I did making it.

My main advice would be two parts.
First, it's always good to put the instructions in the game somewhere, because most people I would wager don't actually read the full description before playing.
Second, In a game as "Arcade-y" as this, it's probably a good idea to make up some kind of scoring system which is shown as the player plays. As it is I didn't feel much motivation to keep playing.
Nice job though, keep it up. :D
btw, I think your restart button is broke. At least for me on windows restarting seems to freeze everything.
Edit: I pushed a new version that doesn't have that issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
As some people have said a timer/score would be cool but what the game definitely is sound effects (and a pumped up music) but mostly SOUND EFFECTS to go with all THESE EXPLOSIONS. It would feel even more satisfying. (also I guess a few particle effects could make neat additions). Instructions could be cool, was a bit lost at the beginning, or at least better info with like the blocks beeping and flashing red when they are on the ground so you know this is not supposed to happen, maybe even exploding or dissolving.
Basically what I'm sayin' is any game can do with more feedback, but this one would definitely benefit from them A LOT ! Here's a little inspiration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg .
Anyways, good job congrats on making the game with so little time :D !
Thanks!
The movement is supposed to be wonky, to make the game harder :)
All in all it's pretty fun! Good job! 😄
Although it is a good idea of shoot'em'up tetris. ;-) Just add more weapons, vfx, explosions, buffs... brick types - and it should be a lot fun to play!
We also made a mix of Tetris... with Shadow of the Colossus ;) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/tetris-of-the-colossus
