You start with a chicken named Nothing. Collect eggs from him and sell them for one dollar. Buy another chicken for five dollars. You will need another coop after you get five chickens, so get one for 20 dollars. Use the arrow keys to move and space to pick up an egg. If you click a button you will need to click the game to move or hit space again.
The graphics are very fun programmer art! There seems to be a bug that coops cost nothing; once I got over 20 (dollars?) I bought 50 coops, couldn't see them anywhere, I don't know if they're supposed to show or not. With a little more content this would be a very fun little game, good job
Hi! I like the chicken! I think you should add some kind of "end" to the game. And it would be better if all chickens did'nt walk with the same speed movement, because you can put them all at the same place and grab something like 40 eggs with one button.
And all my chicks left the screen. I started with almost nothing except a chicken, and I finished with a lot of money but all my animals were gone. Sad story!
I liked the walking animation, a bit goofy but cute!
I think it's a good base concept, though at the moment there is no real challenge to the game as far as I could tell. You keep buying more chickens to up your income, and then you have to buy new Coops to house more chickens.
Just thinking out loud here, maybe there could be a mechanic where chickens run away, so you lose that income if you're not careful? Or you can crush eggs if you step on them, so you have to manage your movement a bit more. Probably many simple ideas to make the gameplay a bit more interesting in the long run!
The game becomes funnier once you gathered a lot of chickens and you got an out of control egg production factory. That aside, everything feels really "cheap", from the graphics to the gameplay (And no sound u_u). I suppose you wanted to try to make a game with an incremental system. If so, then mission accomplished ! Good luck for your future projects :)
Nda .. This is directly a simulator of a successful guy) But that's why the chickens leave? Is this a bug? In theory, they should be next to the chicken coop? Or I did not penetrate the true meanings of this creation. Something like we are growing children, they are leaving when we stay) Kojima genius resting) ps and what is coops?
You got me at "you begin with one chicken". Now I have more than 100. However, I wasn't able to know how much exatly because after 100 the counter dissapeared :/ (but could be a problem on my side, like having a too small screen ?)
2I took the game and I exceeded the limit of display of the numbers of your game. I advise you to either make a responsive interface or that divides the values according to the uniter (ml, L, KL) but version $
Pro strat: battery farming: https://i.imgur.com/9qQ49m5.png :D One annoyance I would note is that clicking the buttons at the top takes "focus" away from the game, so I have to click on the game world again before I can use the arrow keys to move, which is kind of unnecessary and annoying.
Congratulations on finishing a game for the game Jam. Keep making games and watch tutorials to improve! Maybe find someone to work with together. Your Ideas are good and with a bit more experience i am sure you could create some really good games :)
i got a little addicted and had so many chickens, all you could see was brown. also, i had so many chickens, eggs, and money, that it wouldn't show up on the screen! fun game. :chicken: :egg:
Nice submission! I dig the player's walk animation haha it's funny but there's something satisfying about how smooth it is. It fits the theme and I think it's a great base to expand on in the future. Besides the button focus issue, I noticed a bug where if you're walking when you click a button you'll keep walking until you press that direction again. I also have a few suggestions:
- WASD to move would be very helpful since the spacebar collects eggs
- Collecting eggs should raise your money. The separate sell action seems unnecessary (I did something similar in a previous LD and received the same suggestion haha)
- A level indicator on the coop would be helpful
- a win/lose condition would add some challenge. Perhaps a mechanic to lose chickens and losing them all ends the game?
This a super simple and fun little game. The game idea is good, but I would have liked a bit more to do. Overall is this a pretty fun little jam game. Well done.
Simple, little and surprisingly fun. But there is a lot of improvements that can be made... 1st controls, stucking on buttons, some kind of challenge like: build 10combs = win, eggs could become rotted and after 10rotted eggs you lose or you have to win in x days etc.
It's a very bare bones game, but it's not a bad base to work from. Everything seemed to mechanically work correctly when I played, so that's a plus. As some people have mentioned, the controls are a bit uncomfortable. Allowing AWSD would help. So would making keyboard shortcuts for selling/buying. As someone else mentioned, might want to skip the egg selling function and have eggs just straight up give money.
A general tip on graphics, try to avoid bright neon colors like the cyan sky and bright green grass. Making colors off shades makes it easier on the eyes. On a separate note, it might be neat if the chickens spawned random color variations.
The game needs a little more time in the oven, but it's a decent start.
This is a good starting point; it needs some improvements but I think other commenters already covered them. In any case, nice entry, I hope to see you again in future jams!
Cool idea with chickens and eggs! But maybe you need to have an egg from start (but it'll be a chicken and egg problem, hmm) Though game is raw :( Keep going!
It almost feels like an incremental game, which I don't mind~ The chickens seem to be a hive mind for always walking in the same direction, which I found funny. I tried crashing the game by having as many chickens as I could but I threw in the towel after about 20 minutes, haha.
Bug report: buying a coop does not actually reduce your money. Also, isn't there supposed to be a new coop appearing, like when buying a chicken?
