For LD26 I made zoo management/engine building card game. This is the 22nd time I participated in Ludum Dare

What went right

The idea came to me very early this time. I started working early on Saturday inspired by a certain documentary series where colorful characters struggled to keep a zoo running. But I wanted to combine this with a card game because I never had worked on a card game for LD before. Implementation went fine and I even had some energy left in the end. I did not end up having the dreaded Monday LD hangover. Former Ludumd Dares had been a hit and miss with more misses in the last which is why I took a break. But now I feel refreshed and have more trust in my game making abilities. That the idea also worked out great this time. This was an awesome ludum dare weekend!

What went wrong

I had some problems structuring flow control the code. Next time I should use promises or something similar because all the timers, tweens and other functions got really complicated to handle and debugging took way too long in the end. I also forgot completely about sound and music. When I thought about making some it was already too late.

Conclusion

I had a blast and this LD weekend reminded me of some of the best in the past. I hope to continue to participate in LD in the future even though RL is making it more and more complicated to find enough time and space. I am really happy to play your games. It seems that the theme was liked by most - including me. I am looking forward to play more!
