Ludum Dare #54extra
The Shrinking Screen
I tried to challenge myself this jam and learn the godot engine for the first time, and ended up making a mediocre at best game that has to be an extra submission because, well, learning an engine in a weekend is harder than it sounded!
How to play:
- use wasd to move
- dodge EVERYTHING
- after surviving a sequence, you will be prompted to select an upgrade
- you can only get 3 of any upgrade, so make sure you don't waste a precious upgrade
- survive as long as possible
Also apparently godot 4 doesn't do web exports so it's windows only :(

The soundtrack works really well and the variety of enemies and upgrades is impressive. The stage generator is very capricious though, sometimes being fairly harmless and other times essentially killing you. A more static progression could help.

Wonderful game! I personally would've preferred a more aggressive difficulty curve as the game went on but nevertheless this is a great first project in the engine! Best of luck if you choose to continue working in it!

nice game, please give us feedback, thanks

As feedback, I felt that some of the "hazards" would spawn out of nowhere without warning and hit me before I had time to react. This can sometimes feel unfair to the player, I would add some kind of warning that telegraphs to the player that something is about to spawn and in which direction it will move.
I feel like the player's character should get some visual feedback when hit, maybe a white flash on the sprite.
Also, personally, I would maybe test with the player starting 1 "stage" smaller in size.
Other than that, the gameplay is very fun and addictive, well done!
