Critter Duel

---
Summon small critters to fight to the death and protect you from the other critters.

You regain mana every tick, spend that mana on the critters. Your gems will reshuffle when the stack runs out!

Don't let the other critters hit you. And if you have too much mana... you may find it painful.

__Stats:__ The critters mana cost, damage output, and HP are all linked. If a snake costs 8 mana to summon it starts with 8 HP and does 8 damage. As the HP is reduced, the damage output goes down with it. So if the snake is down to 3 HP then it only does 3 damage on the next hit.

__Trample:__ If a critter does more than enough damage to kill another one, the excess continues on to the summoner!

Known Issues

- Missing a few animations: Gems popping off the stack, gems leaving the bag and repopulating the stack, etc.
- Some error spam to console about bones that I didn't have time to fix, but shouldn't cause any problems.

The balance is also way out of whack. :shrug:

It may be lacking a lot of polish... and some decent audio :wink: but I'm pleased with how much I got done in the time frame.

Cute game! My snake SWEPT everyone else. Enjoyed the DIY sound effects a lot. Some more intel on the various stats of the critters would help with coming up with strategies, but it wasn't too tough. Great compo entry. :3

Very impressive submission!

The artwork looks great and the audio was funny and charming.
For some reason the opponent was missing their head.

while more gameplay would be nice, for what was done in the time given it was good!

@meepster Oh no! That's a funny bug I haven't seen yet. Thanks for giving it a go! I agree that it needs more gameplay. Ran out of time to add more animals, but my daughter game be a whole list of things she expects be to add now :joy:

Neat little framework you have for going forward, as well as charming art. Would have loved to see a special ability. Like it for the bee it would be cool if it killed whatever the opponent had out, but then died itself (cause bees lose their stingers and all that). Alas, those time limits are tough haha.

@phlip45 Thanks! I like that idea for the bee. I was also thinking about having the squirrel be able to avoid damage on a dice roll if it's faster than the opponent. Things like that. But like you said. Time limits are a tough. It seems like people are liking the core though. So maybe I'll expand it in the future.

Hi, I had some trouble loading the game on Firefox, but worked perfectly on Chrome! The game is very cute, I like the vibe a lot!

The game is nice, I had a similar idea but decided to go in other direction. You did it well. It's hard to find a good balance in this kind of games. Well done.

Great submission! It's kind of hard to balance a game like that. Currently the strategy is just to spawn one-two cheap critters and then always go for snakes. I think a relatively easy addition for the depth of the game would be extra lines for fighting - something similar to what Marvel Snap has (and many-many other games lol). So if you would add a top and bottom lane I think it would make the game a lot more engaging with some good choices in place. But of course time restrains are brutal and we all want to do so much and are able to do so little :sweat_smile:
