A Trip in the Woods
A Trip in the Woods is a quick, fun game where you try to pick all the safe mushrooms as fast as you can. But avoid the poisonous ones – they will make you dizzy and slow you down.

Made with the lovely Pico-8 in one day. The game is playable in a browser also on modern phones thanks to Pico-8 magic.
Use the arrow keys to move and hold Z or X to carry the shrooms to the basket.
The lists of safe and poisonous shrooms are randomised each time, but their texturing varies slightly to reduce the dependence on colour for better accessibility. We tested the game to be fully playable even in grayscale.

@ira-baciu, you might need to turn the volume up. We had to balance between "audible at all on mobile" and "not intrusive/annoying on PC".

Love the audio, it gives a very unified vibe to the game. I also like the humorous effect when accidentally bringing a poisonous mushroom into the basket. I think maybe adding some details to the graphics such as shadows and movement/animation would improve the visual aspect of the game. Amazing work overall!

Pretty fun idea — I liked it :) I’d add a stage for checking the mushroom instead of giving the list of which ones to collect right away.

Very cute pixel art! I think it would be nice with a little more urgency, I didn't really feel any reason to accidentally pick up the wrong mushroom. Maybe there could be a timer? or maybe the mushroom could spawn and then despawn so you were a bit more stressed picking them up.

Wow! What a hidden gem! It really deserves more votes. The graphics are excellent, and the music fits perfectly. Even though the game is short, it’s effective, fun, and entertaining. Sometimes less is more, and by keeping it simple, it becomes a well-rounded experience. I would have loved more levels, power-ups, or enemies, but not at the expense of the great quality it already has. Once again, good entry, great game!

Not gonna lie, I am a huge fan of pico-8 and I have spent first half of this year just playing with it and was even considering to make a game in it for this LD (that did not happen). Great entry it is clear and nicely fits the theme. I love the touch of the goal being incorporated directly into the play-field! Plus you have the timer to beat how fast you can make the collection! Great job, I love it!

Really love the art! Especially the one you get when you collect the mushrooms you should avoid. It might be better to have a UI showing the accumulated time to make the game more intense. Still, a great game!

The game is awesome. Short, playful, fun. The music is pleasant. The gameplay allows for optimizing time, so there's competitive aspect as well. And yeah, I'm biased because of PICO-8 but it's just fun.
I loved the effects when grabbing the incorrect mushroom and I appreciate that the mushrooms are randomized so the game is quite replayable. It's funny because when I collected all of them (including the bad ones) I managed to be even faster than when trying to get just the correct ones. 😅
What would make your game even better for me is if it showed the timer on the screen. That way I would know if I have a change of beating my previous time.
