*This is an analog game that requires you to journal/write as the core mechanic. While the game takes place in a fictional, fantasy setting, and you play as a dragon, if you don't like writing then you won't like this game.*

“If your treasures are so important to you, let them be all you have. Forever.”

Once a violent, greedy dragon, you were cursed to lose your memories. Now, you're lucky to make it back to your journal in time to jot down what you remember of the day. And when those memories are lost... they're lost forever.

This has its upsides, though: without memories, you can ascribe whatever adventures you want to the hoard of treasures you have! And if something upsets you, just don't write it down, you'll forget it soon enough.

About the Game

*The Forgetful Dragon* is a solo journaling/writing game in which you take on the role of this forgetful dragon. Each round, you experience "grand" adventures, then fill in an empty grid (your "Memories") with the feelings you most associated with that period. In the end, you'll get one of six endings that matches the feeling you felt the most throughout the game.

Each round has a prompt that'll explore something, from staying in your cave and telling yourself stories about your favorite treasures, to going out and exploring. Some prompts are silly, some are dark, and some are secretly glimpses into my reality as a super forgetful person (but not a dragon).

Most prompts include gaining a new treasure (or redefining an old one), which will have you draw this item into your hoard on the game sheet. You'll also be using assorted objects from around your house for the game. You can keep it strictly fantasy-era, or go anachronistic as heck, including a Nintendo Switch, smart watch, phone, or whatever else. Hey, it's your world, do what makes you happy!

When you're done, maybe the ability to rewrite memories and experiences will lead to you doing the same in real life!

Very unusual, good idea. But there is not enough field.

Nice job! I don't play much of these kinds of games, but your instructions were really easy to follow and got me to try it out! So here I am, and hour later with my hoard of "valuables". A lot of the prompts were really creative and when I got the longer ones I got really excited! The idea really fits the theme too!

It really sucks getting sick, that's also why me and my partner missed the last jam, so I get it... I hope you both feel better soon

This was unique and I've been known to occasionally do a write so I gave it a go. I think the immediate tension I ran into was that Curiosity wasn't one of the emotions so I was constantly kind of struggling against that.

But then again maybe this is just how journaling works as I haven't done it before.

Always on the search for innovative jam games and was delighted to discover this journalling one. Some of the prompts got me really in a mindful meditative state - this is top notch work. Great use of the theme :)

I really enjoyed this game! I don’t usually play writing games, but your clear and creative prompts made me want to keep going. I kept thinking about curiosity even though it wasn’t one of the emotions, and that made it more fun. Hope you both feel better soon—you made something really special! :)
