* Exegesis: An explanation or critical interpretation of a text.
* Genesis: The origin or coming into being of something.
*Exegenesis* is a solo TTRPG based on Shut the Box. The luck-dependent nature of the game captures the lack of control we have over what we experience, while the strategy and journaling show you the ease of bending that experience to your will.
You'll need 3 six-sided dice (or a die-rolling app/website), plus about 90-120 minutes, to play Exegenesis. You can skip the journaling aspects of the game and save yourself a good 30 minutes or so, but it's not recommended.
One day, as you fiddled with the FM tuner, you discovered a signal. It sounded like someone, or something, speaking… but the words made no sense. You reached out to everyone you knew, including a friend in the government, but no one understood the language or knew where it was coming from. Worse, only your radio received it. But your government friend did verify it wasn’t a prank.
Does this message come from outer space or here on Earth? The past, present, or future? Is it fact or fiction? Does any of that matter if you can bend it to your will?
* The Digital Booklet is the rulebook and prompts. It's meant to be read digitally.
* The Booklet is the same as the Digital Booklet, but it's a printable 16-page booklet. It requires a good deal of ink, plus double-sided printing.

The Story
You’ve always kept a radio nearby. It’s great to have practically every song ever accessible via your devices, sure, but there’s nostalgia in having an actual radio. One day, as you fiddled with the FM tuner, you discovered a signal. You reached out to everyone you knew, including a friend in the government, but no one understood the language or knew where it was coming from. Worse, only your radio received it. * The Research Page is a necessity. Use the PDF if you want to print it, or the PNG if you want to use it in Paint or something. You can get the PNG here because Ludum Dare won't let me upload an image as a download lol.* The Digital Booklet is the rulebook and prompts. It's meant to be read digitally.
