OHP: Our Homework's Playable!
---

'We' are a group of schoolkids that created a little game on the overhead projector as our homework.

You are our Teacher, that hopefully gives us a nice grade for our project!

Utilize the different tools that we provide you with to find your way thru our levels and collect all the foils for the next level.

We will do all the sound effects and music with our voices or instruments we play,
Noah and Liam are doing sounds with their voice, Emma on the xylophone, Sophia is redrawing the character so quickly you don't even notice her and Lucas does the same for the other objects on the blackboard!

The level are hand made and you can even redraw the character that we prepared for you, Sophia can adapt quickly!

We hope you enjoy it and this will give us an A+!

Just to clarify, the 'we' in the text above is just so the 'Our' in the Gametitle checks out, i did everything alone x)

One of the first things that came to mind was the overhead projector, not sure if its still used today, but for me its THE 'old tech' because in general i saw it only in schools, and thats quite some time ago x)

I loved the idea of working with color foils and color lines that are hide able, or can appear by utilizing different tools.
For that the geoobjects came to mind, those where often semi transparent, perfect!

Another good idea was to show a more zoomed in version on the blackboard - that way i can have the player and objects on the blackboard, while the map is on the ohp, and the gameplay can be a constant switch between the two views.

And lastly, with a blackboard, i needed a character that can change its looks whenever, so all of you get the opportunity to draw yourself! :D

After that i was a bit lost, didn't quite know what game to make out of that, created the base without knowing where it will lead to - but i am more than happy with what it became!

---

The game is made in core JS, Html and CSS, no engine or libraries.

- Code is made in VSC
- Art is made in Paint.NET
- SFX is fully mouth sounds slightly edited in oceanaudio
- Music is made with 'https://guitartunerapp.com/xylophone'

I use code completion and utilize ChatGPT as my 'better way to google stuff i need to know', not to create functions - do with that information what you want :)

---

Struggled a bit with time in the end, forgot to think about a name first, and then i had to come up with something fitting last minute and tried to adapt the game a bit more towards the name.

It was always clear that it should be 'in school' - but first i had lessons in mind, the whole 'we did homework' idea came to me really late, but i love it!

Tho i think i could've done a bit more with it if i would've had the title earlier.

THIS. IS. BRILLIANT. I mean it. The puzzles are fun and inventive, and more importantly really intuitive. It can get a bit fiddly having to tab back and forth, but that's pretty minor. I was already having a blast when I suddenly realised you can edit the character, so naturally I did gave him big eyes and he became 10x more handsome. Great entry 🎱

What a brilliant idea. I wish I had though of this. The puzzles and the tools feel really intuitive most of the time too and the game is well made too! Nice!

Hi, tabbing back and forth and animation of change is a bit tedious, but overal it is very neat idea!

The filter concept is a cool idea, but the transition animation makes it frustrating to use but was really fun

The options really open up with the coloured tools and it was fun to work out the combos of coloured filter combined with the tools that could be made into bridges. I also liked getting to make my own character, it must have been fun to implement that.

It's so long since I thought about overhead projectors so seeing them again made me smile. I don't think we ever had coloured filters on them though!

The idea of turning homework into a game is wonderfully creative, and I loved hearing how the sounds and music were created using voices and instruments. That really adds a unique, personal touch to the whole overhead projector experience!
