My goal was to make a simple 2D-game where the player is supposed to catch butterflies with different kind of nets and weapons. As I didn’t have as much time to code today as I thought I had, the end result is rather simple but I’m really happy I managed to finish something! Hope you enjoy it!
I used Python 2.5 and Pygame. The windows executable can be downloaded from here
the graphics / animations work really well! It is ‘fun’ somehow to throw your net out there and the butterflies look really great and move very flutterly.
best score would seem randomly skewed based on the butterfly population that is generated. my first play I got like $4500 because there were quite a few black butterflies and then on the next three plays I averaged around $3000.
a few thoughts on possible things for more tension: some kind of ‘bee’ like thing.. (maybe just 1?) that maybe flies around that you have to avoid and that if it stings you releases some of your butterflies? I realize that you’ve got the basic tension of time limit and it is fine.. but if you opened the time limit up more I would guess an antogonist might be needed to keep it fun. Anyway, good playable game with deadlines being what they are.
It would be cool if there was a continuous range of butterfly colors with one end of the spectrum being worth the most. Also, I think you should have to release the button to catch more butterflies.
I look forward to your future LD games :D
