STORY
-
You are one of the world's 10 best people called Al, and have therefore been invited to compete in the Annual Al Acrobatics championship. The winner is given the title of 'Al 1' - will it be you?
HOW TO PLAY
-
Use left/right to charge during the powerup phase. At the top of the screen is a minimap - the small red part of the line is the target, and the green arrow is approximately where you will land at your current speed.
When you're in the air, press the displayed keys to score combos, press left to slow down your flight so you hit the target, and make sure you press space before you land otherwise you won't score any points.
To score a kitten bonus, when the combo letter is 'K', hold shift when you press K. You must land directly on the target to score kitten bonuses. After 3 rounds, the game is over.
THE BIT WHERE I EXCUSE THE CRAPPINESS OF THE GAME
-
Though I actually liked the theme this time, I came quite late and unprepared to this LD, and started coding about 36 hours in. I wasn't happy with the game by the Compo cutoff, and normally I would just submit what I had as a compo entry, but this time round I felt like actually completing something. As a result, while it's missing much in the way of graphics and is completely absent of audio, as far as gameplay goes it's perhaps the most complete LD entry I've made. That doesn't make it any less terrible - the game reminds me of many horribly generic Flash games, but without the presentation, addictiveness or convenience - but I hope that the completely unrelated kitten bonus acts as some compensation for this.
I probably won't be developing this further, though if I do I think I'd turn it into a multi-event game, tune the gameplay/opponents a bit more, add a few little features to give it more depth, and vastly improve the presentation.
