Okay, so even though I entered the 72-hour Jam, my whole Saturday was filled and I couldn't do much else than come up with an idea for the game, and my Sunday was also slightly disturbed. The game doesn't include the much needed instructions, as I spent the last few hours fixing what I'd broken. Also, it was never intended to have a bot playing it. It's strictly multiplayer.
The music was improvised by Andre Sobral, a friend of mine who's a professional guitarist: http://sobral-avainferi-wako.blogspot.pt/

This is a Chess variant with an emphasis on promoting your pieces. In each turn, you may move/capture (just like in regular Chess) or you may promote one of your pieces. It's a multiplayer game, but unfortunately you have to play in on a single computer.
The board is divided in to 3 types of terrain: Sea, Land and Castle. Only Sea units may move on the Sea, only Land units may move on Land and all units can move in the Castles. Units close to the opposite type of terrain have the option of promoting to a different terrain version of the same piece (e.g. a Land pawn can promote to a Sea pawn).
The goal of the game is to "checkmate" the enemy castle (the 8 squares colored black, white or shades of grey, half belonging to each side). However, because of the time constraints the game doesn't know when the game has been won, so you have to confirm by yourself.
By reaching the final row, instead of promoting to whichever piece you want, you earn the option to promote to a Knight (though not immediately), which is the strongest piece in Promotion Chess. Knights are Flying units, which means they can move wherever they want.
This isn't explained in the game because I didn't have time, so here's how each piece moves. Please refer to the second "screenshot" (it's not really from the game) for graphic instructions.
- Pawn (starting unit): These are just regular old pawns. They move and capture like in Chess.
- Land-side Pawn: These move/capture one square diagonally. They're only available on the land side.
- Sea-side Pawn: Moves/captures 1 square forward or 1 square to either side.
- Square with a hole in the middle: Moves/captures like the King in Chess; 1 square in any direction
- Cross-shaped thing: Can move/capture 3 squares to either side or 1 square forward/backward
- Double-crossed-shaped thing: Moves/captures 2 squares diagonally and can reflect off the sides of the board or off terrain it can't walk on.
- Knight: Just like in Chess.
This really isn't a convenient game. Not only is it single-computer multiplayer, it doesn't include in-game instructions. However, it's a pretty interesting design, so please give it a try if you've got someone to play with. Thanks!
