Ludum Dare #53compo
Wobbly Eats
Welcome on my 7th Ludum Dare Compo entry!
Now that's a fun theme! And once again I choose something "food related" (see my previous game *Type-Eat*).
So I wanted to challenge Godot Engine 4.0.2 (being used to the version *3*), and that was really great! (*very good job Godot guys*!)
GDScript is more powerful, most of the problems I had in the past with the language are no more, and I only scratched the surface of the new things!
For the drawing, I wanted to use Inkscape for once, and I'm really not disappointed. It's super useful, and even with my bad drawings, the result is quite nice!
So it's a driving game (or more exactly a quirky physics-based 2D driving game), where you have to deliver a food package to customers, but with sand dunes all over the place, so don't drop the food (you would not like it either if the delivery guy dropped your food).
The game got *10 levels*, each with time trials to beat.
So try to be the best! :sunglasses:
Software used:
- Godot Engine 4.0.2 with my *sxgd* plugin collection,
- Inkscape,
- FL Studio
Assets used:
- The *VTF Mister Pixel font* (https://velvetyne.fr/fonts/mr-pixel/)
- Some *FontAwesome icons* (https://fontawesome.com/)
_Good luck, and have fun! (I did have fun making and playing this game!)_

@dzejpi Thanks! Well, for Godot 4 it "just works", but with the same pitfalls than Godot 3 (when you are exporting for HTML5 it uses the "Compatibility" mode I think, using GLES3, so for now no GPUParticles for example).
The other thing is the requirement for SharedArrayBuffers, but with a simple script it can work on GitHub Pages

Ah, sweet, that's great to know! I thought that it wasn't supported at all. Then that seems like a pretty safe choice too. :)

Super fun, classic gameplay style- very reminiscent of the old school time wasting games I played in school in the early 2000s.
Great work!

fun game, the last level was very hard and I didnt get the leaderboard all in all nice entry

Srynetix5 May 2023, 12:10
@bmanstudio Hmm I can't test it but I will export the game for Mac and you can tell me if that works or not
EDIT: There is now a link to download the macOS version: https://github.com/Srynetix/wobbly-eats/releases/download/v1.0.0/Wobbly.Eats-mac.zip

The game is pretty fun, reminds me of older flash games and gave me a similar feeling. Only feedback is how the sand is almost the same color as the background, causing it to become harder to see.

nice hill climb racing style game.. i liked it

Good job! Cool idea! The only thing with the load does not matter whether you drove with him to the finish line or he flies somewhere) IMHO, perhaps all the same it was necessary that he was on a motorcycle

Srynetix5 May 2023, 17:04
Thanks @blazerdom, well the package does not really need to be on the motorcycle when you are at the end.
That's kind of a feature / useful bug which can improve your level times
The only rule is that the package should not touch the ground

Thank you man! I really enjoyed playing this. I'm surprised this game has so little rates so far.
I played html version and there were constant screen tweaking, not sure if this is the case on other platforms.
Also background and level colors are almost the same so they blend into each other quite a bit.
Other than that it is a really fun game, good job!
Upd: the same screen tweaking happens in windows build but only when I resize the window to fullscreen

Great game. I haven't finished level 10 but had lots of fun while playing. The graphics are basic but the music is really nice.

Really great game ! very fun to play, the physics are predictable, so manageable. And there are some nice touches when the package hits the receiver dude :D
Quite fun to play. Bonus points for the dancing text and for using Godot 4 :)
Cheers

A funny and pretty well made little game. I like the music and the visuals. The gameplay is simple and fun. The game is a bit difficult, but not too much. Overall a great compo game. Well done.

Great job, it's well balance and fun to play !

Lots of fun and funny moments! I couldn't beat level 10 but had a good time with it. One thing I encountered a few times was getting the underbelly stuck on angle changes and would need to restart the level. That's part of the difficulty for sure, though those losses weren't as fun/goofy as the ones where I yeeted the package off a ramp or missed catching the package haha. Nicely done!

Great game. It's extremely well polished for a game jam, more importantly it's fun. You've balanced the difficulty quite well, there's even a bit of a skill curve which always feels good as a player - took a few tries on the last level but I kept on playing because I was actually enjoying myself.
The feeling of the bike was perfect, although it did bottom out and get stuck a couple of times. I understand that it might be on purpose but it was the only thing that felt a bit annoying in this game so it sticks out to me. The intro and scoreboard are really well done, makes you forget that this isn't a released game.
I think the graphics have room for some improvement, but how they are doesn't drag the game down at all - and as it is, the whole thing feels very cohesive and well designed. The music and sounds are pretty good too, only thing I think is missing is maybe a bit of audio feedback for buttons and things - that's definitely a nit-pick at this point. It reminds me of the sorts of games you'd play on your iPod touch (and I mean that as a compliment).
Overall really good job, you said this is your 7th time and it definitely shows. Clearly a lot of experience and talent has gone into this game and personally I think it paid off.

I like killing customers with the food!

Glad Godot 4 treated you well. I read many posts saying that it's not really ready for HTML5, so I kept it safe with Godot 3.5, but with your game, it seems that it works just fine. Or did you have to do something special in order to make it work properly? Anyway, nice entry, great work!
