Project distress, an early prototype made for the ludum dare game jam, this game's original Idea was to tests you agility, timing and movement within a limited space.

However this is still currently an early prototype, the project is open for UX feedback and suggestions to make the final game more fun and innovative. I wanted to still submit it to show my efforts within a new engine.

the goal for this months jam was to learn the Godot engine, I am fully fluent in both C# and C++ however with the recent news, I wanted to teach myself something new. another goal being that it will build confidence in my programming knowledge.

due to having complications with schedule, it left me with little time to develop the prototype fully, however I decided to still publish it for feedback and ideas.

which can be found in this survey here:

I learned that it requires a lot of patience to learn an engine like Godot, whilst I commend their signal system, sometimes even navigating through the engine is a bit complicated, however I will adapt with time and hopefully master the engine like I did with unity.

the demo is also on itch.io! https://happy-star-productions.itch.io/project-distress

Glad to hear you were learning Godot this jam - it is definitely a good choice!

Maybe consider adding a HTML build to itch.io? It is very easy to export that from Godot after all.

lol that was the plan originally. but I'm on Godot 4 so :P. however I now what to work with whenever I want to build a web game. as I do have experience in that.

@ninten7 Godot 4 is actually capable of WebGL builds and they work well enough. In fact, our game was made with Godot 4 and has a perfectly working web build. Only Macs may have issues running Godot 4 web builds for now.

It only takes a couple of minutes to set up and get it up and running in itch.io. Here is one example guide

Sliding along the walls was a great way to move in your game. Nice work! Pretty fun and defiantly challenging. I'd suggest generous check points and an ability to slow down.

Honestly pretty good given the time constraints and learning a new engine, only problem I ran into was I thought I had to hold down S and couldn't jump multiple times which made the second set of spikes pretty hard. overall really good for a demo

Cute game and absolutely amazing that you made it all by yourself in a new engine! (Coming from someone who thinks coding is wizardry haha) The itch web game format is a bit weird (it's very large) but the game is playable so it's all good! Nice interpretation of the theme~
