Sketch & Snake

A classic drawing toy meets the classic snake game!
Control your snake using the knobs of a Telesketch-inspired toy. Keep moving, keep growing, and try not to crash!
There's a twist, though: your snake never stops growing. The longer you survive, the longer your tail gets... unless you give the toy a good shake!
🎮 Controls
- A / D — Move left / right
- J / L — Move down / up
- SPACE — Shake!
- If you have at least 10 points, shake to lose half your tail and make some room.
- If you crash, shake to restart the game.
- + / - — Increase / decrease volume
🐍 How to Play
- Keep moving and growing as long as you can.
- Avoid crashing into anything, or it's game over!
- Once you reach 10 points, you can shake away half your tail to keep your snake manageable.
- Each point you eat is worth one more than the previous one: +1, +2, +3, +4… If you cut your snake in half, you lose 10 points and the value resets to +1.
- Crashed? Give it another shake and try again!
How long can you survive before your own tail becomes your worst enemy?

In any case, the controls are still available on the page if anything isn't displaying as intended. You can start moving right away using the ADJL keys, which is why I didn't include any additional instructions at the beginning. The key prompts actually appear whenever you stop moving, so you can see what each key does.
That said, I recommend downloading the game, as it looks much better in the downloaded version. I'm glad you liked the concept!
@givit-game-studios Thank you! It was actually pretty difficult to come up with an idea I was happy with. In fact, I didn't start developing the game until about 20 hours after the theme was announced!
I know it takes a little while to get into the game, and I could probably have made the onboarding smoother, but once you get the hang of it, I think it can be quite enjoyable. With more time, I might have been able to add more feedback to make things clearer. Maybe something to work on in the future!
Thanks again for playing!
I see how it's a "sketch" game because unlike the usual Snake, we go slow and almost "draw" our snake pixel by pixel on the screen, so it's a different kind of strategy, which is quite interesting!
I think it's impressive you managed to make a game in such limited time frame, so I don't have many complaints, but I would say it would be great if the snake could draw a little bit faster. You definitely need a lot of patience and a cup of tea to slowly go through this game :) Maybe there's some pause in between also? As it feels like sometimes I press the button but nothing happens; almost like there's a little cooldown of sorts? UPD: I tried pressing down on the button and it actually started drawing continously, omg!! I realized that only when I already got my first 10 points T_T
I like the effect when "resetting" the level, the white noise-like one. I like the detail of the knobs turning when we are "engaging" them. Actually looking at that makes me realise it could be another reason for J L choice. As it's located in regards to A D like the right knob is located in regards to the left one (that was a convoluted sentence, sorry)
Also, I think the most fun way to play this game would be to try and make a drawing! :)
A bird-like creature when playing as intended. I wanted to finish the beak but I went too close to the line, didn't realize it would be a crash xD
Just an attempt to draw a heart xD
It was fun (after I figured how to draw continuosly lol)! ^v^
I see that several of you have had issues with the controls; I’ll have to look into that at some point after the jam—though I’m not sure why, as it worked fine for me... I’ll see what I can do!
That said, I’m glad you liked the concept and appreciated the mechanic of being able to lose points in exchange for continuing to collect more—since, inevitably, even if you lose a large part of your snake, you can still find yourself so hemmed in that you’re forced to do just that.
Thanks for playing!
@dblazer63 @scorpioffi Thanks for playing!
I’ll definitely have to find a Tetería where I can enjoy some good blue tea while I try my hand at making drawings in my Snakesketch! I know a place where they harvest and prepare it by hand—they do a fantastic job! 😄
As for the controls, I’ll need to look into them once the voting period is over, since it seems they aren’t working well for everyone... I’m not sure if it’s just an issue with the web version, but I’ll check it out regardless.
Thanks for playing! 🍵
Hehe, I am glad you were satisfied with our tea service ;) Come again to receive your vision of the future! x)
Also, for the record, I was playing the Snake's downloaded version, on Windows; I feel like I thought it was too slow at first, but when I realized I can press the button down and draw continuosly, it became comfortable!
