Retrospective

For this entry I wanted to explore using a photocollage art style, i.e. taking elements from many different pictures and stitching them together. I really enjoyed the process and I'm quite proud with how it came out, but I severely miscalculated how long it would all take. For a good portion of the jam I was just going through hundreds of pictures of old computes, TVs, phones, etc. and cutting them out in Photoshop. At least I could save some time on the minimalist pixel art to make up for it 😅

I did it!

This was a super, super clever game. Very well done! Such an awesome idea, you should be really proud of this!

There is only a few things I have for constructive feedback:

1) First playthrough I got high up in the first section, and fell right back down to the beginning...I then killed myself only to respawn....at the beginning. Lol. If intentional, that is fair, but it seems like an accident to me where you are taking the last screen you've been to as the next death checkpoint, and it sucked to lose all that progress

2) The jumping needs some love. There is a thing called "coyote time" that this game could really use, where even if you're off the floor for 0.1 seconds, it keeps the fact that you were just grounded in memory for a short period of time (ex: 0.1 sec) and still allows you to jump. The screen with all the really small circles was particularly rough in this regard

Lastly, a banger soundtrack would make this go so much harder than it already does. Really great job overall!!

Honestly, you scrambled with my brain xD and i loved it. Audio, Visual, and the gameplay concept were super fun haha I have nothing to critic, except the one tv with the balls when i jumped down in a straight line i felt like it wasnt 100% accurate. Other than than, crazy cool concept

@william-corrin Thanks for the kind words and the feedback, I really appreciate it 😊
You're exactly right about the checkpoint system 😅. It simply takes you back to the last room you've been too, but it doesn't care if you already progressed further. Could definitely be improved.

@dekisenpaitm Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it!

FYI: When I set up the jam page yesterday in my sleep deprived state I accidentally opted out of all the optional categories (theme, graphics, audio, ...) because I misread it as "opt-in" 🤦

I updated the page now so those categories are also available for voting. If you already voted and you happen to see this, it'd be awesome if you could also give me your ratings in those categories.

Cool! An unusual platformer. It’s really messing with my head.

The idea is really cool, and the theme is incredibly well executed! I’m a big fan of what you’ve managed to create. The concept of jumping between old monitors and TVs fits the theme perfectly and gives the game a unique identity. Really impressive work!

This is totally disorientating in the best way. Super imaginative and while it takes some getting used to I think the transitions work really well for the most part.

Really good, love the background, like the fact that each screens are in some direction and change the gravity of the personnage. make me think of VVVVVV. I didn't try the challenge, and the only part i find a little hard is what i call the pachinko, with the 3 saw and little plateform.

Amazing game with original mechanics and an excellent implementation! The only thing that fall flat is that the movement feels a bit janky for a platformer. Adding features like coyote time could make some of the more precise jumps feel smoother and less frustrating. Overall, an amazing game jam entry with a really strong concept and execution!

Completely on theme, with well-judged difficulty throughout, a very interesting and innovative concept

Completed the challenge!

I really like this idea of travelling through screens, and I think the combination of realistic hardware with minimalist pixel art in screens is pretty cool.

I did get stuck here while attempting the challenge, which is annoying since the only move is to exit to menu.

Overall good game!

This is great fun! Although there are a couple of places where you can "fall out" and not die, locking the game.
I really love how the checkpoint system works though. I don't know how you are doing it but I love that it only loads from a place where you have touched the floor and been still. Great detail.

Stuck here!!

Fun concept. I wish there would have been more puzzle like challenges as you can enter the monitors from different sides and use the falling physics to create more speed for higher jumps. I was able to use that in my advantage to skip couple sections of the game. Difficulty was pretty spot on for me, I beat the extra challenge as well without not too many retries!

Tiny bright pixel platforms inside a pile of photographed old TVs is such a good look. I like that the screens point in different directions too, so the junk pile is actually part of how you move around.

Rated! Would appreciate you checking out our entry too if you have time: Robot Workshop.

The momentum of jumping between all those different monitors felt really satisfying to play. Navigating the junk pile of discarded tech gives the game such a unique atmosphere. It's a super creative way to tackle a platformer setting.
